Heavy-weight sub-weight, OP-1200-SPU If you ask record enthusiasts, "What comes to mind when you think of Ortofon?", many will likely mention the SPU series or the Concorde series. The SPU series in particular is a living legend, beloved by many even today, over 60 years after its creation. We want even more people to enjoy the SPU, which is Ortofon's symbol. With that in mind, Ortofon has created the OP-1200-SPU subweight for use with the SPU in the SL-1200 series. The tonearms in this series have the same 52mm distance from the stylus to the headshell connector as the SPU, and are compatible with a wide range of weights, making them a great match for the SPU series. Furthermore, their ease of operation and setup makes them the perfect partner for many people to enjoy the SPU sound. We hope that the OP-1200-SPU subweight will be a useful introduction to the SPU sound. [Notes] I. It cannot be used with the first generation SL-1200 series tonearms, as the rear end of the arm weight shaft does not have a screw hole for mounting this product. It also cannot be mounted on tonearms in the other SL series that do not have an M4 screw hole for mounting a sub-weight at the end of the weight shaft. II. When installing this product on a player or tone arm other than the SL-1200 series (excluding the first generation model), please refer to the specifications of the device you are installing it to and use at your own discretion. Ⅲ. The counterweights included with the SL-1200 series tone arms vary slightly in weight and size depending on the model. The cartridge weights listed in our published specifications have some leeway, but please consider them as approximate values only. [SPECIFICATIONS] ●Cartridge compatible weight (approximate value when using SL-1200MkII or later models, headshell included) ・Main weight only: 28 to 32g ・When combined with small additional weight: 32 to 36g ・When combined with large additional weight: 36 to 38g ●Maximum range of stylus pressure (approximate value): 3.5 to 5.0g, up to 4.0g in some locations ●Thread diameter of weight attachment part: M4 ●Weight length: 15mm (excluding thread, main weight only) / 17mm (excluding thread, when combined with small additional weight) / 18.5mm (excluding thread, when combined with large additional weight) [FEATURES] Ⅰ. Two-piece high-precision machined brass weight The OP-1200-SPU's greatest feature is its expanded weight range compared to the previously available SH-1200W-S subweight (compatible with cartridge and headshell weights ranging from 30-33g), allowing it to accommodate heavier SPUs like the SPU GTX series (38g) and CG25/65 series (37g). The weight itself is machined from two pieces of brass, allowing it to be compatible with the lighter SPU Synergy (G shell model, 28g) while maintaining accurate weight accuracy. The two-piece weight allows for compatibility with cartridges weighing 28-32g (including headshell) when using the main weight alone, 32-36g when using the small add-on weight with the main weight, and 36-38g when using the large add-on weight with the main weight (all approximate values). This product was developed with the SL-1200 series in mind, but it is not suitable for use with our SPU series cartridges (e.g., Ortofon MC Diamond and LH) whose combined weight of the cartridge and headshell is similar to that of the SPU series cartridges. -10000, weight approximately 33-34g). II. Slim design that does not come into contact with the dust cover except at the innermost periphery The OP-1200-SPU has a slim design with a narrow depth when attached to the tone arm, similar to the previous genuine weight, so that it does not come into contact with the dust cover when playing a record with the SL-1200 series dust cover down. Also, the disk-shaped sub-weight was chosen to keep the distance from the pivot point, which is the fulcrum for the tone arm's movement, to the weight's center of gravity as short as possible. This product will not come into contact with the dust cover during normal music playback using the SL-1200 series, but depending on how the dust cover is attached or when playing records with small diameter label surfaces such as SP records, there is a possibility that the side of this product may come into contact with the side of the SL-1200 series dust cover when the cartridge stylus reaches the innermost circumference close to the label surface, which could put excessive strain on the stylus and record. Therefore, if the record grooves are cut close to the innermost circumference, or if there is a possibility that you will trace all the way to the innermost silent groove without lifting the stylus immediately after playback has finished, be sure to remove the dust cover before playing.
