It's particularly soft at full aperture and sharp when stopped down. Another appealing feature is the ability to control the dual nature of the lens depending on the shooting intent.
The 40mm focal length is a frequently used semi-wide-angle/standard lens that requires mobility. Despite its large F1.4 aperture, the camera body is only 29.7mm long and weighs 175g. Its compact design allows it to be carried around at all times.
The all-metal helicoid unit is machined and adjusted with high precision, and high-quality grease is used to generate just the right amount of torque, resulting in smooth focusing. This manual focus allows for delicate focus adjustments.
The lens mount is a VM mount compatible with the Leica M mount, which is ideal for use with rangefinder cameras, and also offers excellent design balance when attached to mirrorless digital cameras via a mount adapter.
It has a generous image circle that is compatible with full-frame 35mm cameras, and is extremely compact compared to interchangeable lenses for SLR cameras.
