What is the ETRTO size and why should you pay attention to it?
The ETRTO size is a standard way of designating tire size, developed by the European Tyre and Rim Technical Organization. It allows you to easily check if a new tire will fit your bike.
ETRTO is written in a format similar to a postal code – for example: 47-622. What do these numbers mean?
• 47 mm – is the width of the tire,
• 622 mm – is the inner diameter of the tire, i.e. the size of the rim the tire must fit.
Attention! The diameter (second number) must match your current tire – this cannot be changed. The width (first number) can be different – you can choose a narrower or wider tire, as long as it fits your bike frame.
To be sure you're buying the right tire, look for the ETRTO marking on your current tire and choose a new one based on the same code (at least the second number).
