The Type 95 Small Cargo Passenger Car (Kurogane 4x4), which began mass production in 1936, was Japan's first four-wheel drive vehicle.

Taking advantage of its excellent off-road capability, it played an active role in reconnaissance and liaison.

Initially a three-seater, later four-seater versions were also produced.

Separately from these, the Type 95 Small Cargo Car was produced by converting the area behind the driver's seat into a cargo bed.
