The M279 is a model that offers further adjustment based on MXR's expressive vintage phase tones, exemplified by the 'Phase 90'. The Deep Phase provides a very clear sound, distinct wobble, and mid-range scooping, delivering a dynamic tone that responds to attack, almost like a human voice. It transitions smoothly from thick, mellow chord sounds to gentle, quiet melodies, adapting to your playing dynamics. It also handles low-frequency ranges, producing excellent sound with instruments like bass and keyboards, which have a wider range.

Unlike traditional phaser pedals that often cause volume drop during use, the Deep Phase is designed to maintain consistent volume when switching on and off. With two knobs and one switch, it offers a wide range of phase sounds from delicate and smooth effects to intense effects. The 'SPEED' knob adjusts the effect's speed, and the 'FDBK (Feedback)' knob controls the peak strength and sharpness of the phase.

By default, it provides a smooth effect with four stages. Pressing the 'MODE II' switch doubles the peaks to eight stages, making the phase effect more dynamic.
