How to handle ebonite mouthpieces
Good quality ebonite, which is the material for mouthpieces.
During a certain period of time after is manufactured, silver plating may change color due to the characteristics of its components.
The new mouthpiece may retain the characteristics of the ebonite material and may discolor when stored in an instrument case with a silver-plated instrument, ligature, and cap.
Also, storage in hot and humid places can easily cause discoloration.
In order to avoid discoloration of silver plating, it is recommended that the mouthpiece be stored separately from the instrument in the outer pocket of the instrument case (wrapped in a soft cloth or the like so that there is no risk of damage) for a certain period of time.
(The color will be less likely to change after the seasoning period.)
