This pigment is made by adding natural high-grade starch and glue to pigments, mixing them together, and drying them in a round dish. It is particularly popular among Japanese painting materials. The colors are transparent and light, and it is used for haiga (haiku painting), Nanga (Southern School painting), delicate Japanese-style painting, as well as illustrations for postcards, underpainting for mineral pigments, and sketching.
