■ Kazuhito Yamashita is one of Japan's leading classical guitarists. His record of being the youngest winner in history of the world's three major guitar competitions—the Ramirez (Spain), Alessandria International (Italy), and Paris International (France)—set at the age of 16, remains unbroken. He continues to be a prodigy in the guitar world, possessing both high musicality and virtuosic technique, and has long dedicated himself to overseas performances, receiving widespread acclaim.

■ In 1978, at the age of 17, Yamashita released his first album with RCA, and has since released nearly 90 albums. Now, at the age of 60, he has selected his best recordings from those made for RCA, condensing them into four titles across eight discs for this series.

■ Works by Spanish composers are indispensable to guitar music. Yamashita, too, included Sor on his debut album, and they occupy an important part of his performance repertoire.
