The prototype is based on the current appearance of the M107 train belonging to the Nagoya Rolling Stock Depot. It reproduces the appearance different from the 1000 series, such as the lack of a whistle on the driver's cab roof and the extended skirt due to the lack of a snowplow. The front display reads "One-Man Local Kameyama." Replacement front displays read "One-Man Local Shingu" and "One-Man Local Toba." It reproduces the smooth, beadless bodywork, exhaust pipes on the end panels, upper headlights, front design without driver's cab displays, and matte stainless steel finish. Head/taillights and front display lights up (with switch to turn them off). White LEDs are used. A power unit with a flywheel ensures stable running. Both couplings use body-mounted close-coupled couplers (without hooks). A single-stage electric coupler that can be attached to the coupler at the front of the leading car is included. Destination display stickers are included, including priority seat signs and anti-slip surfaces on the front of the leading car.
