MAXIMUM THE HORMONE
The band's agency is Mimikajiru. The label is Warner Music Japan. The band's abbreviation is Hormone.
According to vocalist/guitarist Maximum the Ryo-kun, the band's name comes from "We're going to blast music that'll get your blood pumping and your muscles dancing, enough to get your hormones flowing at maximum!" The name was actually an afterthought. Because the band members love meat, they took the name "hormon" from yakiniku (grilled meat) and added "MAXIMUM" as a cool word.
Originally, the band's name was written in English as "Maximum The Hormone." After a lineup change, the name was written in katakana, with the English spelling used as a secondary term. The official spelling is "Maximum the Hormone" with a half-width space.
Their signature style is intense performances reminiscent of hardcore punk. While they have a strong image as a band yelling out surreal, incomprehensible lyrics, they also have many pop songs and a unique musicality that defies being pigeonholed into a single genre. The highly skilled performance of each member is also a defining feature of the band.
Fans have pointed out that if you listen closely to the aforementioned incomprehensible Japanese lyrics (official lyrics), they sound like coherent English.
Since these misheard English lyrics are not officially recognized, opinions are divided among fans, but some fans enjoy them and post misheard lyrics in the comments.
We've turned Ryo-kun's haters into a sweatshirt hoodie.
The label-style parody logo is a must-have for the '90s melodic punk generation.
