Although it is considered a perennial in its native habitat, it is treated as an annual because it cannot survive Japan's scorching summers.
Grow it in a well-drained location that receives at least half a day of sun.
The flowers open and close depending on the amount of light, so they will close in the shade when the light level decreases.
If you apply basal fertilizer at planting, no additional fertilization is necessary. It will grow in relatively poor soil.
You can enjoy it for a long time by picking off the spent flowers.
Sowing Time
Warm and intermediate regions: September to November (April to June after flowering)
Cold regions: March to April (flowering June to July)
Cold-hardy to about -5°C.
When sowing in the spring in cold regions, the temperature must be kept at the optimum germination temperature (15°C to 20°C).
Esscholzia seeds are photophobic, so broadcast sowing without covering them with soil will reduce germination rates. Also, because it has a taproot and does not like to be transplanted, the easiest way to sow seeds is directly into the soil or by sowing directly into pots and thinning them out.
[Sowing]
Escolzia seeds are very small.
Escolzia seeds are photophobic, meaning that germination rates decrease when exposed to light. Therefore, be sure to cover them with about 1cm of soil when sowing.
After plowing the soil thoroughly, make ridges and level the tops of the ridges.
Once leveled, cut rows about 1cm deep and sow the seeds about 30cm apart.
After sowing, bury the rows and lightly press them down, then water with a fine stream to prevent the seeds from washing away.
Until germination, water the seeds when the soil surface begins to dry.
[Temperature]
The germination temperature is 15°C to 20°C (soil temperature).
[Germination]
If all conditions are met, the seeds will germinate in about 10 days.
Please be sure to read and understand the following precautions (disclaimers) before purchasing.
〇 The germination rate decreases the further the temperature deviates from the optimum germination temperature (soil temperature).
〇 Seeds are living organisms. Please store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight until sowing.
〇 Do not use seeds directly for food or feed.
〇 Keep out of reach of children.
〇 Seeds cannot be 100% pure by nature. Please understand this before purchasing.
〇 In the unlikely event of poor results, the guarantee will be limited to the cost of the seeds.
〇 Results will vary depending on growing conditions and weather after sowing.

Contains 100ml of Escolcia (California Poppy) seeds.
Flower colors are a mix of orange, white, red, and rose.
The Japanese name for this plant is Hanabishisou, due to its diamond-shaped flowers.
Approximate seeding amount: 3ml/㎡
