The Tale of Genji Complete Decipherment Volume 3: Aoi, Kasuga, Hanasachi, Suma

This book attempts to decipher the entire text of The Tale of Genji from the perspective of Japanese linguistics. For each sentence in The Tale of Genji, an accurate translation into modern Japanese is provided, with a grammatical explanation of why it has been deciphered that way, and examples are always provided to explain non-obvious usage. It aims to be a developmental successor to Imaizumi Tadayoshi's Tale of Genji Gohohen and Saeki Baitomo's Tale of Genji Lectures. After compiling dictionaries of ancient Japanese and classical grammar books, and providing commentaries on the Hyakunin Isshu, this is the author's long-awaited culmination of his research into classical grammar. 11 volumes in total.
