2023 marks the 60th anniversary of the 1963 release of The Beatles' second single, "Please Please Me," and their debut album, "Please Please Me," which essentially cemented their popularity in the UK.
Since then, the four members have steadily expanded their activities as a global idol group. Apple's official 2023 calendar, inspired by this, is designed with 1963 in mind.
The overall concept, like the 2021 calendar, is to arrange photos of The Beatles from 1962 to 1969 in chronological order from January to December, with portraits from 1963 used for the four members' birth months (February, June, July, and October). The cover, of course, is also a 1963 photo.
This time, I consciously chose photos that showed the four members lined up in a row or sitting in chairs, but by coincidence, the January (1962) and December (1969) photos show them by the river. I also included a 1969 photo as a decoration after the December photo. When you compare it with the January photo, you'll be amazed at how much they've changed in just six and a half years! Finally, there's a tasteful collage by the calendar's designer, Kazunori Akita, that conveys the fact that this is a Japanese-made calendar.
