This performance is undoubtedly considered to be the greatest of the performances left by Jacqueline du Pré, a talented female cellist who garnered much attention but passed away at a young age due to a terminal illness. Supported by the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by her husband, Daniel Barenboim, du Pré fully conveys the sadness that permeates the work. Each of Elgar's melancholy melodies, written in mourning the devastation of war, intertwines with the cellist's unfortunate fate, creating a moving experience.
[Limited Edition (available until the end of 2016)] Includes new liner notes.
