Miyabi is a game in which players take on the role of Japanese garden designers, placing multiple layers of garden tiles. Players must strategically place tiles within the constraints of only allowing the same type of decorations in each row and only rows with empty lantern spaces. Players receive instant points based on the number of decorations multiplied by the number of layers. Finally, players compete for additional points based on the most decorations in each row. Players become Japanese garden designers, skillfully placing stones, shrubs, ponds, and small shrines to create a beautiful, "miyabi" garden. By utilizing their exquisite and elegant sensibilities, players can create true works of art and become the season's master gardener. At the start of the game, players are presented with a 6x6 garden board in front of them, complete with six lanterns. 96 garden tiles are placed face-down on the lid of a box in the center, and six five-tier bonus tiles are arranged face-up. The score board and the gardening round marker placed on top of it are shared. Tile Selection and Placement: On your turn, you select one of the face-up garden tiles in the center and place it on your garden board. Each row can only contain decorations of the same type, and tiles can only be placed in columns with empty lantern spaces. Garden tiles must be placed within a 6x6 grid, and tiles can be placed completely on top of existing tiles to create multi-layered structures.
Lantern Placement and Scoring: After placing tiles, place one lantern on the lantern space in the row you used. Instantly score points equal to the number of decorations on the garden tiles multiplied by the number of layers placed. For example, placing three small shrine tiles on the second row will earn you 6 points. End of Gardening Round: The gardening round ends when all players have filled their lantern spaces or when there are no more tiles available. Unused garden tiles are removed and new tiles are placed for the next round. 5th Row Bonus: The first player to place a tile on the 5th row of each decoration type immediately receives the corresponding bonus tile. Game End and Winner/Loss: After the number of gardening rounds based on the number of players (2 players: 6 rounds, 3 players: 5 rounds, 4 players: 4 rounds), the player with the most decorations in each row receives the highest score, while the player with the second-highest score receives the lowest score. The player with the highest total score wins and becomes the season's Master Gardener.
