Product Introduction
Kunozan Toshogu Shrine is the founding shrine of all Toshogu shrines nationwide, dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu.
Ieyasu, who founded the Edo Shogunate, spent his time as retired shogun in Sunpu (present-day central Shizuoka City) and passed away in 1616 at the age of 75. According to his will, his remains were buried at Kunozan (Suruga Ward, Shizuoka City), and later, by order of the second shogun, Hidetada, Kunozan Toshogu Shrine was built.
The main hall and worship hall (one building) are National Treasures.
The Romon (Important Cultural Property) is a two-story, vermilion-painted gate standing atop stone steps next to the shrine office. It is said to separate the secular world from the sacred realm.
A plaque bearing the inscription "Toshodai Gongen" hangs in the center, and carvings of the baku (a mythical creature considered a symbol of peace) greet visitors on the frog-leg brackets.
Inside the lattice doors on the front side of the gate are guardian figures (zuishin), and inside the diamond-shaped fence on the back side are lions and guardian dogs (komainu).
This kit reproduces the "Romon" gate of Kunozan Toshogu Shrine in 1/75 scale.
The texture and beauty of the wooden architecture are achieved by assembling the model using processed wooden parts.
With its high-precision parts configuration and manageable size, this kit is recommended even for beginners in wooden model making.
