Players take on the role of one of the Three Kingdoms' warlords, and aim to expand their power with the ultimate goal of unifying the country. The game begins with the "Oath of the Peach Garden." This is the famous scene at the beginning of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, in which Liu Bei Xuande and two heroes, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, swear to be sworn brothers in the Peach Garden. In this game, players similarly choose from over 200 characters to represent their monarch and their first vassals. Characters possess abilities such as bravery, intelligence, and governance. Some are reliable military commanders in battle, while others are civil servants active in domestic affairs. Because a monarch's capabilities are limited, recruiting and utilizing talented people is necessary to expand the country. This utilization of talented people is a major attraction of this game. Duels and strategies are also essential elements of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. In this game, duels are positioned as preludes to group battles and play a crucial role. Strategies are also recreated using the game's 124 "Heaven's Mandate Cards." There are many military strategies and tactics available, such as the "Fire and Death Strategy" and the "Ten-Sided Ambush Strategy," and even if you are outnumbered, you can turn the tide of battle by using these strategies effectively. However, in order for a strategy to succeed, the character's abilities must be high. Because of this, they need military strategists who are skilled in strategy rather than bravery. The Mandate of Heaven talismans also recreate various events from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, ranging from major events such as the Imperial Seal of the Nation and the invasion of the Northern Barbarians, to events such as the death of a general due to old age or assassination. These events can represent not only sudden misfortunes, but also rare opportunities for unifying the country. Who will unify the world?
