These simple coasters are crafted by Iwamoto Kiyoshi Shoten, a long-established Kanazawa paulownia wood craftsman, taking advantage of the unique soft and rustic texture of paulownia wood. They can be paired with any type of tableware, from plain teacups to painted teacups, mugs, and glass cups. [Kanazawa Paulownia Wood Crafts] This traditional craft originated in Kanazawa, a castle town where the traditional culture of the Kaga Domain, a powerful feudal domain, still thrives. Made from high-quality paulownia wood, the surface is burnished and polished to create a soft, warm, amber-colored surface that develops with use and enhances its patina. Designated a traditional craft by Ishikawa Prefecture in 1988.
