In the early 17th century, the Dutch East India Company (DITC) was the first in the world to recognize the beauty of Chinese porcelain, specially ordering and importing "blue and white porcelain" (furyōde). However, in the mid-17th century, China banned exports. Arita was selected as the next production site.
