Holding various tools in his 42 hands, he looks around with 10 faces above his head and removes all kinds of hardships. This figure was created by Kannon, who requested the Tathagata to give him a thousand hands and a thousand eyes in order to save all sentient beings. The figure of Amida Tathagata is held above the top of the head and forehead, indicating that the Buddha is the messenger of the Tathagata who will save us in this world. Because he has the most meritorious deeds among the Kannon Bodhisattvas, he is also known as the King of Kannon or ``Lotus King.'' The model is Kyoto's Important Monument, the 1,000-armed Kannon statue.
