This book, which is the official catalog for the Japan Pavilion of the 12th Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition to be held from the end of August 2010, is about the urban theory of Tokyo by Tsune Kitayama and Yoshiharu Tsukamoto, and its practical examples by Mr. Kitayama and Mr. Tsukamoto. (Atelier One), Ryue Nishizawa, will introduce you to the detached houses and apartment complexes that he actually builds in Tokyo. In this book, the designer himself provides detailed explanations of ``House & Atelier One'' (designed by Atelier One) and ``Moriyama Residence'' (designed by Mr. Nishizawa), whose 1/2 scale models will be displayed at the exhibition. Mr. Kitayama, who is also the commissioner of this exhibition, questions whether Tokyo, which is slowly being optimized through the ``new architecture'' created from a positive interpretation of Tokyo, is one of the urban models suitable for the 21st century. He points out that the face of the city is changing through these small updates of architecture, and that the concept of what architecture used to be called ``metabolism'' is being put into practice at the urban level of Tokyo.
