N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) is a stable form of the non-essential amino acid L-cysteine. It is a sulfur-containing amino acid that acts as a stabilizer in the formation of protein structures, which contributes to the formation of glutathione. Glutathione is a component responsible for the elimination of free radicals, which also contributes to the normal and balanced work of the immune system. Functional action:
N-acetylcysteine participates in the synthesis of glutathione - one of the body's most powerful antioxidants, which neutralizes many toxic effects. But given the fact that glutathione is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, to restore its normal level in case of pathology, NAC is prescribed.
