Product introduction
Starting with the 'Year of Africa' in 1960, African countries, which until then were controlled by European countries, achieved independence one after another. At the same time, unique popular music was born, and around 1970, about 10 years later, the buds of popular music sown in each country grew greatly, and a new musical culture was about to blossom. And the rise of African music, which was shown for about 10 years beginning in the early 70s, was remarkable in the history of popular music. The period from the early 70s to the early 80s, when African music shone most vividly, is what this work refers to as the 'golden age of African music'.
This album is a 2-disc series full of important sound sources that marked the golden age of African music and rare sound sources that are hard to hear anywhere else, and it was produced by the prestigious German label Network. Also, in this 'West Africa Edition', editing centered on sound sources from West African countries such as Mali, Senegal, Gambia, Ivory Coast, and Guinea. Only in West Africa, where popular music flourished from the earliest period among African countries, the maturity of that era was incomparable to other regions, and it is a fulfilling musicality worthy of being called a golden age.
What is recorded in is the young recordings of Youssou N'Dour and Salif Keita, who are now known as the two giants of African music, the long-established Senegalese band Orchestra Baobab, Benbeya Jazz, which was born within the policies of President Sec Touré of Guinea, the Gambian group that also played an active part in the UK, the Super Eagles, etc... Also, there are explanations in English, French, and German in the booklet, which is full of valuable jacket photos from that time, but of course, careful Japanese translations are added to the shipment.
Note that this work is a reprint of the same title (NWR-4001), which was released in Japan in 2006. Previously, the jacket design was different due to the vertical digipack specification, but this time it was changed to a normal size 2CD digipack (the contents are the same), and the price is off.
