Snow obsidian is also sometimes called snowflake obsidian due to its scattered natural white flecks.
Obsidian is a volcanic rock composed of silica. Silica being in fact sand and the main component of glass, we can therefore consider that obsidian is close to a natural glass resulting from the fusion of sand. It is therefore translucent although very dark (black in general).
Sharp like glass when cut but much stronger, obsidian was in the past widely used for making arrowheads or cutting tools..
