Experience the ultimate Godzilla sculpture with a plastic kit.
A brand new Godzilla joins the ARTPLA SCULPTURE WORKS series, which brings you masterpieces in plastic kit form!
The original sculptor is Shinobu Matsumura, a leading expert in natural history and biological sculpture.
Using promotional stills from the 1954 release of Godzilla as its base, the essence of various Godzillas over the past 70 years has been reconstructed and recreated.
Rather than a reproduction of a suit or CGI, this figure depicts in 3D the appearance of the giant ancient creature as it emerged in Tokyo.
The collapsed Nichigeki Building and elevated Japanese National Railway tracks at the base, and the pose of the monster gripping a train in its jaws, add to the sense of realism.
Matsumura's passionate sculpt has been condensed into a fixed-pose plastic kit on a total of eight runners. The organic yet complex surface details of the body have been faithfully reproduced from the original model.
Despite the complex divisions, the structure used in previously released series, in which the body surface parts are attached to a base body, ensures sturdiness.
This method, which is a challenge when it comes to fitting the parts together, is molded with high precision, and the division lines are inconspicuous.
The assembly itself is fun, and once completed, it becomes an ornament that can withstand display even in its unpainted state. Of course, if you choose to paint it, the combination of the colossal creature Godzilla and the collapsed structure will surely inspire your imagination.
br[Painted example produced by: Shinobu Matsumura]
Godzilla (1954)'s body color differs from the black of many subsequent Godzilla figures. It is often depicted in browns or grays, as seen in movie posters. However, this time I chose a reddish-brown that would suit the burning cityscape.
The area around Yurakucho Station, where the base is located, still retains a certain atmosphere from that time, with the exception of the Nichigeki Theater, so I painted it with that image in mind.
Prototype produced by: Shinobu Matsumura.
