This fighting action game is based on Akira Toriyama's globally smash-hit manga, Dragon Ball Z. While numerous Dragon Ball Z games have been released, this is the sequel to Dragon Ball Z, released on February 13, 2003. While retaining the same basic mechanics, this title includes characters and scenarios from up to the Majin Buu Saga, unlike the previous title's Cell Saga.

Specific new characters include three different forms of Buu, Young Gohan, and Young Trunks and Goten. Including previous characters, players can play with over 30 character pairs. Not only are transformations and special abilities not available in the previous game, such as Super Saiyan 3 and Majin Buu absorbing other characters, now possible, but players can also enjoy unique fusions not seen in the original manga.

Additionally, a special technique called "Dragon Shading" has been used to bring the graphics closer to those of the anime, allowing players to enjoy battles in a faithfully recreated Dragon Ball world. Furthermore, the single-player mode is an RPG-style fighting action called "Dragon World Mode," which allows players to enjoy a slightly different mode from the previous game, and also allows players to see events that were not possible in the original work.
