Chamois leather is made up of fibers primarily composed of intertwined protein molecules called collagen. Its ultra-fine fibers, impossible to replicate with synthetic fibers, offer excellent absorption and removal properties, allowing it to completely wipe away dirt, moisture, oil, and even fingerprints without damaging valuable items like cars, motorcycles, bicycles, musical instruments, watches, camera and eyeglass lenses, glassware, LCD screens, smartphones, precious metals, scissors, and more. The collagen contained in chamois leather also has the moisturizing effect on guitars.
In recent years, various manufacturers have released various types of cloths as alternatives to chamois leather when wiping off dirt from soft precious metals such as pearls and opals, but they cannot compare to the fine, smooth texture of chamois leather.Another characteristic of chamois leather is that it develops a unique character the more it is used.
Caring for chamois leather is relatively easy. If it gets dirty, simply rub it in water or lukewarm water and dry it in the shade. If it is very dirty, you can wash it in the washing machine using a mild detergent. If you want to maintain its softness, wash it with fabric softener and rub it by hand when it is 80% dry, which will help it stay soft for a long time.
When using it to wipe down your car after washing, first let it absorb enough water and then wring it out tightly before use.
Caution: The highest quality tanned leather is the muntjac, a member of the deer family. However, since muntjac is designated as a protected species, in recent years, sheepskin and goat skin have been used to make chamois leather. Never wash with water over 60°C. Avoid direct sunlight and dry in the shade. Using leather used on the wheels or other undercarriage on the body of a car may damage the body. Because natural leather is used, there may occasionally be 1-2mm holes or uneven coloring in the product. However, this does not affect its use, so please be patient.
