Very soft rubber. You need to try to close the jar. It's not airtight, if the jar tips over the water will spill. So-so.
It's not realistic to carry a bottle with this stopper lying down. It constantly falls off. But when the bottle stands with water for 3 days, it simply falls off by itself.
The lid is great. It fits the bottle. Now the bottle can be loaded into the trunk to fill with water. Very pleased.
