This joint translation by the Bible Society aims not only to provide "an elegant and beautiful Japanese Bible suitable for reading in Christian church services and liturgies," but also to contribute to the formation of the Japanese language and culture in the future.
It has been 31 years since the publication of the New Joint Translation in 1987, which is used by 80% of churches and Christian schools in Japan. The Bible Society Joint Translation is a newly translated Japanese Bible that will become the standard for the next generation. The first edition was published in December 2018 after approximately 9 years of translation. Following the new joint translation, this is also a joint translation project with the support and cooperation of Catholic and Protestant churches. It was translated by the research results of the world's largest Bible translation network, the United Bible Societies (UBS), and by Japan's excellent Bible scholars and Japanese language experts. It reflects as much as possible the achievements of Biblical studies, translation studies, and Biblical archeology over the quarter century since the New Joint Translation.
The first edition in 2018 had ``references and notes'', but this is a standard edition with more text per page without these.
It is a medium-sized B6 hardcover book that is suitable for equipping not only Christian churches but also schools and other Christian facilities.
